Marten has been a member of the CBEE department since 1996. In 1999 he received the NSF CAREER award, one of the most prestigious federal grants supporting early-career faculty, and in 2007 he was honored with the Maryland Board of Regents Award for Collaboration in Research. In 2023, Marten won the ACS Braude Award in recognition of his support of research involving students. He started his biotechnology company MycoInnovation, LLC to commercialize his research to use fungi to produce engineered proteins.
“The ACS Division of Biochemical Technology has been my professional home for over 30 years, through both my research in fungal systems and cellular engineering and my leadership roles within the Division,” Marten says. “All of this makes being recognized as a Fellow particularly meaningful.”
