Engineering and Computing Education Workshop Series
What Topics Do STEM Education Researchers Study and Why?
Learn ways to investigate student perceptions of ability, achievement motivation, and other critical outcomes (beyond performance) in computing and engineering education. This workshop will provide an overview of how educational researchers conceptualize and operationalize a variety of topics of interest in STEM education. We will discuss “educational constructs” including self-efficacy, science/engineering identity, goals and goals orientations, and others.
Participants in this session will
explore examples of validated measures and widely cited studies examining relevant research constructs in computing and engineering education
practice ways to identify what these constructs tell us about the impact of our teaching and the student learning experience.
discuss opportunities to incorporate these constructs into current pedagogical research and REU projects led by COEIT faculty
