Paid Graduate Assistantship: Office of Community and Culture (Apply by Oct. 31)
Dear Erickson School Graduate Students,
I'm passing along a paid graduate assistantship that may interest some of you. The Office of Community and Culture, part of UMBC's Division of Institutional Equity, is hiring a Graduate Assistant to join its team.
About the office
The Office of Community and Culture includes the Center for Social Justice Dialogue and the Women, Gender, and Equity Center. It supports UMBC's commitment to inclusive excellence through training, workshops, cohort experiences, consulting, and dialogue programs that help students, faculty, and staff connect, learn, and belong.
What you would do
The Graduate Assistant is a full member of the team and works across five areas:
- Programs: Plan, run, and assess workshops, cohort experiences, dialogues, and community conversations.
- Communications and outreach: Create content for myUMBC and other digital channels, and make equity and belonging topics accessible and engaging.
- Events: Support signature programs, cultural celebrations, symposiums, and campus-wide events.
- Campus partnerships: Work with departments, student organizations, and other campus groups to build connection across UMBC.
- Graphic design: Create promotional materials, visual campaigns, program highlights, and educational graphics in Canva or similar tools.
Who should apply
You don't need one particular background. The office is looking for someone curious, creative, and adaptable who cares about building inclusive and equitable communities. Experience with campus or community initiatives, facilitation, or digital content creation (such as Canva) is helpful, but a willingness to learn counts just as much.
Program planning, facilitation, partnership building, and communicating with diverse audiences are also skills that carry directly into careers in the aging field.
