Dear Colleagues,
In 2015, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) provided funding to support five cybersecurity research partnership projects between UMBC and the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA). These awards totaled nearly one million dollars per year for three years and build on a longer history of UMBC/USNA partnerships.
With those awards coming to an end, ONR has informed us that they would like to continue providing similar support. To that end, USNA and UMBC will host a preliminary event in the afternoon of November 8th at USNA in Annapolis. This will provide faculty from both universities to connect and form teams that will eventually submit full proposals to ONR.
If you are interested in participating in this November 8th match-making event or have any questions about this program more generally, please email Dr. Don Engel, UMBC Assistant Vice President for Research, at donengel@umbc.edu. Dr. Engel is working with Dr. Reza Malek-Madani, USNA's Director of Research and Scholarship to finalize the event and manage the submission process.
Please note that the cybersecurity research program at ONR is supervised by Dr. Sukarno Mertoguno. The program's title is Cyber Security and Complex Software Systems. It has the following four thrusts:
- Principles for Correctness and Security Properties
- Trusted Network Computing
- Secure Information Management, Sharing and Interaction
- Information Assurance of Cyber-Physical Systems
For detailed information about these fours thrust please visit Dr. Mertoguno's website at:
