UMBC and the State of Maryland are continually seeking ways to bridge the funding gap -- support that can be difficult to obtain from traditional funding sources. These initiatives were created for this purpose, and were designed to advance innovations originating from university research to more commercially viable technologies.
This workshop will describe the resources available for commercialization of inventions by UMBC researchers. UMBC has a process in place to help -- starting with the submission of invention disclosures and patent applications, to the licensing of the patent or the development of a start-up company. UMBC faculty will discuss their experiences in obtaining funding for their projects.
The recently announced Commercialization & ENTR REsearch (CENTRE) Funding Initiative is a new resource opportunity at UMBC which provides funds for research leading to potential commercialization of a product or service. Any UMBC faculty conducting research in either technical fields (technical entrepreneurship), or social/humanities fields (social entrepreneurship) is encouraged to apply for funding.
Who Should Attend? Faculty, students or postdocs who:
• Have an idea or invention that may be the basis for a company;
• Are interested in learning the next steps after an invention is made; or
• Want to learn the funding options and resources to support the
commercialization process.
Sponsored by the Bearman Chair in Entrepreneurship
