Faculty Affairs congratulates Dr. Autumn Reed, Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs, on her new role as Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs at the University of Baltimore. We would also like to recognize the outstanding contributions that have been made by Dr. Reed during her many years of dedicated service in UMBC’s Office of Faculty Affairs.
Dr. Reed joined UMBC's Provost Office as Program Coordinator for ADVANCE and Faculty Diversity Initiatives in 2011. In this role, Dr. Reed institutionalized UMBC's NSF ADVANCE Institutional Transformation grant into a campus-wide Faculty Diversity Initiative, which included such initiatives as the Eminent Scholar Mentoring Program and the Fellowship for Faculty Diversity. In 2015, Dr. Reed became the founding director of the Committee on Strategies and Tactics to Recruit to Improve Diversity and Excellence (STRIDE). She was promoted to Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs in 2018 and continued to administer a comprehensive range of faculty diversity initiatives, contribute to program and policy developments related to these efforts, and work with administrators, as well as internal and external constituents to advance UMBC's commitment to increase faculty diversity and inclusive excellence. Dr. Reed’s ability to collaborate and communicate effectively to diverse stakeholder groups has been critical in advancing the important work of diversity, equity, and inclusion. The true impact of her presence here at UMBC is seen in the way that her work has contributed to a shift in culture at UMBC, towards one that is more supportive of minoritized faculty, including their recruitment and advancement.
Dr. Reed is also a proud UMBC alumna, who received her M.A. in Intercultural Communication in 2008 and her Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Culture in 2014. Dr. Reed expects to receive her J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore in May 2025.
