Abstract:
Climate change and air pollution are linked in several ways, including that they both stem from anthropogenic fuel combustion and are leading risk factors for global public health. Novel geospatial data sources are enabling greater availability of information on exposure levels and risks for populations all over the world, including in places with limited ground monitoring. This talk will address how satellite and mobile monitoring observations of atmospheric composition are changing our understanding of air quality in urban areas in the U.S. and globally, and how these data can be leveraged to motivate more ambitious air quality and greenhouse gas mitigation policies at municipal, national, and international scales.
