Arteaga co-author of JAMES paper selected for AGU social media feature!
Congratulations to Lionel Arteaga and the other authors of the 2026 paper titled "Evaluation of timing and amplitude biases in the controls of simulated Southern Ocean pCO2," which recently was published in AGU's Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems (JAMES). This paper was selected by the JAMES editorial board to be featured on AGU's social media platforms, specifically on November 8th at 5:00 pm (EST). "Fewer than 2% of AGU papers are selected to be featured in this way"!
Dr. Arteaga provided a short summary of their research: "Computational models of the ocean are one of the main ways that we predict how the Southern Ocean carbon sink might change in the future. We focus on a large region of the Southern Ocean that is important to the uptake of carbon, finding that most of the models used to project the future of the Earth's carbon cycle do not correctly capture present seasonality. We present a simple way to understand which ocean properties and processes are driving these discrepancies to guide future improvements to the representation of seasonal cycles in numerical models." (Note, pCO2 refers to partial pressure of CO2, which relays how much carbon dioxide is in seawater.)
Look for the post on AGU's X, BlueSky, Facebook, and LinkedIn accounts!
