The Pack That Gives Back

UMBC's Giving Pack, formed in August of 2025, is a group within UMBC’s Office of Institutional Advancement that helps bridge the gap between students and philanthropy. Members serve as ambassadors for the University, and help cultivate and enrich the culture of philanthropy that UMBC believes is central to the institutions longevity and growth.

Giving Pack members are engaged, philanthropic-minded student leaders who care deeply about the UMBC experience and want to make a difference on campus and beyond. Through events, outreach, and direct conversations with their peers, members help students better understand how alumni and donor support creates opportunities for today’s Retrievers: from scholarships and student organizations to academic programs, campus experiences, and more.

We believe that today’s student philanthropists can become tomorrow’s alumni philanthropists. By introducing students to the impact of giving and inviting them to be part of UMBC’s philanthropic community, the Giving Pack helps foster a lifelong connection to the University and its mission. It’s about showing students that philanthropy isn’t just something that happens after graduation, it’s something they can be part of right now.

Throughout the academic year, Giving Pack members collaborate with the Office of Institutional Advancement to plan and promote student engagement initiatives, participate in donor stewardship, share the impact of philanthropy with their peers, and represent the student voice at advancement events and programs. Members have opportunities to develop leadership, communication, event planning, and outreach skills while helping their fellow Retrievers understand the role philanthropy plays in moving UMBC forward.
