The Human Context of Science and Technology (HCST) certificate is an excellent addition to STEMM or Humanities degrees at UMBC.
An HCST certificate enables you to:
- Understand how science and technology shape and are shaped by human values and societies
- Prepare for the ethical and political complexities of a career in technology, science, medicine, or policy
- Communicate to employers that you have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to engage with the ethical dimensions of science and technology
- Reflect on how your daily life as an individual and a citizen is affected by emerging technologies and advances in science
- Choose from dozens of interdisciplinary electives
- Use HCST electives and requirements to also satisfy GEPs
