Congrats to our INDS Fall 2026 Scholarship Recipients!
Rhyon is a junior in INDS on the MDST track working on combining coursework in engineering, mathematics and social justice. Rhyon's academic path reflects interests in using analytical problem-solving to develop a deeper understanding of the social justice issues that shape our communities. This naturally connects to an entrepreneurial mindset by recognizing a problem, understanding it deeply and creating something new to solve it. Rhyon hopes for a future where technical knowledge and social impact come together to create meaningful change.
Cathy Hiebler ’98 Chip Hiebler Scholarship
Nevaeha is senior in INDS on the INTS track who designed a BS degree titled "User Experience with a focus on game design". Nevaeha combined coursework in human-computer interaction, psychology, sociology, and philosophy while also pursuing a UX Design certification. Nevaeh plans to attend graduate school to pursue a degree in UX Design, or a related field, with the goal of combining her interests in technology, design and the social sciences in order to help create meaningful and accessible user experiences. During Nevaeha’s time at UMBC, Nevaeha was invited to travel to Panama to observe students and propose an app designed to help them navigate daily life while abroad. Nevaeha has also been on the President’s List and Dean’s List.
Zainab Damji Memorial Scholarship
Lucy is a junior in INDS on the INTS track and is currently designing her degree in Political Art History. Lucy will be combining coursework from art, english, history, and political science to explore the political nature of modern and contemporary art and museums. Lucy is a Honors College student and member of WMBC, the UMBC student radio. She has participated in two study abroad programs while at UMBC: the UMBC faculty-led summer 2025 Art and Power in Japan program and the ISEP Direct semester program in Ireland in spring 2026. After graduation, Lucy plans to attend graduate school and work in the museum field.
