Title: Partitioned Algorithms for Interacting Geophysical Fluids
Abstract:
We develop energy-stable and computationally efficient partitioned algorithms for interacting geophysical fluids, with a particular focus on primitive-equation models of atmosphere–ocean coupling. These systems involve strong nonlinear interactions, multiscale dynamics, and the practical challenge of incorporating new numerical methods into existing simulation frameworks. Our approach employs two-step partitioning strategies that combine inexpensive, provably stable predictors with defect–deferred corrections to achieve higher-order accuracy in both space and time. The resulting algorithms remain robust in turbulent regimes while avoiding the computational cost and implementation complexity of fully coupled solvers.
