Graduate Student Seminar
SIAM Student Chapter Presents: Creating a personal website
For this week's graduate student seminar, our SIAM student chapter will be hosting a Website Workshop event. The event will be held at the usual time and place (UC115 from 11:00–11:50). The event is targeted to the graduate students, but all are welcome.
Dr. Rostamian will be leading a workshop detailing the process of making a personal web page. The topics will include good practices for website design and management, actually making a website, and the process for having your website linked to the department's web page.
Rather than just a seminar, this will be an interactive workshop, where by the end you will have a website hosted by UMBC, modeled after this sample page. To make this possible, we ask that you do the following:
- Bring a laptop to the event.
- Have a photo of yourself available to place on your web page (A jpeg image will be good but other image formats are acceptable).
- If you have a Windows machine, to facilitate interfacing with UMBC's web-server (which runs Linux), please install PuTTY and WinSCP (search for these on Google, install, and verify that you can connect to gl.umbc.edu before arriving at the seminar).
In addition, the event will be catered so please come hungry!
