Following her Applied Mathematics Colloquium, Dr. Yarnall will allow me (and you too) to interrogate her on her personal and professional experiences after finishing her Ph.D. in Algebraic Topology at UVA in 2014.
Please join us for a frank and honest discussion of the trials and tribulations, joys and sorrows, of navigating life after the Ph.D. I should mention that Carolyn has a very different experience than most of the faculty at UMBC, as she is a pure mathematician who has been on the teaching track in her post-Ph.d. life.
She has experience with (and is willing to speak on):
moving all over the country several times, doing a variety of different sorts of post-docs, living on both coasts, working at different types of institutions, navigating the two-body problem, and working in a teaching-oriented environment while still doing some cool research (that isn't what her Ph.D. is in). Join us (via Google Meet)!
