Alkemie, a medieval musical experiment created in conjunction with the Johns Hopkins Program in Arts, Humanities, and Health is performing their virtual program Verdant Medicine live in 3 states.
Join them as they celebrate mystic, medic, and musician Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), who connected the living greenness of plants and the growth of spirituality to the human body and the way it works. Her beliefs come through in the music she wrote for her nuns--chants full of unfurling branches, earthbound roots and medicinal spices.
The concert includes "Intersensory Program Cards" that pair Hildegard's music, texts, and associated images with materials that the audience can smell, taste, touch, and hear.
The Maryland show will be on Friday, April 29 at 7 PM
