This summer, ME S-STEM scholar, Ms. Diane Stonestreet worked with a faculty mentor in Engineering on an interesting research project.  She compiled aerosol concentration data for Baltimore, Maryland of the last 10 years, and used the Extended Aerosol Inorganics Model in order to model aerosol interactions and calculate aerosol pH. Once this was finished, she compared trends in aerosol pH with trends in sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide concentrations in order to determine to what extent air pollutants have influenced aerosol pH over the last decade. The ultimate goal of this research is to determine how the Environmental Protection Agency's Clean Air Act has influenced aerosol acidity.  Congratulation, Diane, for a job well done.
