Please join us in congratulating Dr. Amy Froide, Professor and Chair, Department of History, and Dr. Sarah Jewett, Director, Innovations in Transfer Research and Practice, on their recent grant from Bringing Theory to Practice.
Amy Froide (PI) and Sarah Jewett (Co-PI) received a matching grant from Bringing Theory to Practice to pilot their design of a Public History Summer Experience with Howard Community College students. Three history faculty members will facilitate this three-week Public History experience that foregrounds the concept of the ‘Citizen Historian’ akin to the more well-known Citizen Scientist. It will introduce the concept of Public History (the use of historical methods and skills in the community or beyond the classroom) and how Public Historians work with community partners and apply historical knowledge and practice to civic issues. The goal is to engage and inspire the students through research-based disciplinary activities, connect them to campus networks and knowledge, and ultimately, support their transition to UMBC.
Congratulations!
