With the ever-changing landscape of data management and dissemination as well as the need for Persistent Identifiers (PID) such as ORCID the Library is here to help!
Please see the below message from Michelle Flinchbaugh ( flinchba@umbc.edu ).
New This Year!
- A Library Data Scientist can do data analysis and visualization for NIH PIs. See Research Data Services below.
- UMBC now has open access agreements with some publishers: UMBC Open Access Agreements.
- Pending the approval of the President, UMBC now has an Open Access Policy.
ScholarWorks@UMBC
The Library
will add works to ScholarWorks@UMBC
for you. If you've previously sent a list of publications, or link to a
list of publications, you don't need to do anything. Each year, we'll
automatically add your new works, contacting you for anything we need.
If we've not yet gone through your works, please send me any of the following:
· A list of your published works (including works before you were at UMBC). You can send a link to a publications website, a public Google Scholar page, your CV, or just paste a list into an email.
· Your unpublished works with the files attached. These can be reports, lab notes, data, presentation slides, posters, etc.
· Links to free articles or papers about you, your work, your department, program, lab, or center or about UMBC.
· The name and email address of students who have done outstanding papers or projects for one of your classes, and we’ll include their work in ScholarWorks@UMBC. Include the name and number of the course and the name of the assignment.

ORCID
Save Time! There are a bunch of fast and easy ways to quickly load lots of your works' citations into ORCID then into Digital Measures. Many publishers and professional organizations can also automatically load materials into ORCID for you if you give them permission. ORCID is a type of author identifier, so be sure to use the form of your name that you prefer to use on publications and to give the University of Maryland, Baltimore County as your employer. For more information on ORCID or instructions on how to set up your ORCID, see https://lib.guides.umbc.edu/c.php?g=1047837.
UMBC Faculty Expert Search Tool
UMBC now has Faculty Expert Database. Faculty can turn their listing in it on so that it draws information from Digital Measures by visiting umbc.edu/go/directory-info and under Profile Format select Digital Measures. Directory information, Personal and Contact Information, and other Digital Measures items you have specifically selected will display in your public profile. Full instructions are here: How to update your profile in UMBC’s new faculty expert search tool
The Digital Scholarship Services website includes information on all of the above services, plus more.
