Hey everybody,
We crushed it last week. This week we will be discussing anarchist theory, philosophy and practice in the Spanish Civil War. Most of the time our political imagination is rather congested. We cannot think beyond what we are aware of in history and it stifles our political creativity. Considering the shape of the world we need to get creative and in a big way.
For this reason, Wednesday will be a combination of history lesson and philosophical discussion. By exploring how the anarchist workers movement in Spain attempted to put its ideas into practice in its fight against Francisco Franco's 1936 military coup, we will have a better understanding of what anarchism is as a political philosophy and how anarchist socialism or libertarian communism relates to other forms of socialism and communism.
Some important questions we will consider include: is an anarchist society as envisioned by the Spanish anarchist movement desirable or is it not desirable? Is an anarchist society feasible or is it not feasible? If it is desirable, how do we ethically implement it?
I'm super stoked to hear everyone's opinion on this subject. Its near and dear to my heart.
