A representative of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine came in to give a presentation during November 18th's meeting.
The general AMCAS timeline is as follows:
- May 1: the application can be accessed
- May 28: application may be submitted
- Jun 15: AMCAS finally releases the applications
Competitive applicants have leadership experience, show academic excellence, can work in a team, have service experience, are compassionate, and embrace diversity.
Applicant requirements:
- AP and IB credits accepted by the university can be used
- MCAT scores
- 8 credits of biology with lab
- 8 credits of chemistry with lab
- 8 credits of physics with lab
- 4 credits of organic chemistry with lab
- 4 credits of biochemistry (though 3 credits is also accepted)
- 24 credits of humanities and social and behavioral sciences
- 6-8 credits of calculus or statistics or a combination
- two writing-intensive courses (which can overlap with humanities and social sciences credits)
Online courses and pass/fail are all accepted from 2020-2021, and may be extended depending on pandemic.
If offered, applicants will be interviewed by fourth-year medical students and faculty and alumni of the medical school. During the interview they are looking for applicants who are empathetic, compassionate, and able to relate to people from diverse backgrounds.
Students can also pursue an MD/PhD or an MD/MBA, as well as other opportunities such as Masters in Bioethics, Public Health, Health Innovation and Technology, etc.
