Professor Nayak is seeking a part-time (10 hours per week) research assistant (RA) to assist with quantitative and qualitative projects related to immigrant health and health disparities. The RA will be directly supervised by Professor Nayak. Responsibilities will include conducting literature reviews, abstracting information for a systematic review, developing presentations, assisting with editing and writing scientific manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication, and
assisting in developing public health grant proposals. Students who contribute significantly to projects will have opportunities for co-authorship on presentations and papers. Current projects focus on studying the effects of immigration policy and legal status on immigrant domestic violence survivors, estimating the impacts of naturalized citizenship on women’s violence victimization experiences, and examining associations between citizenship and reproductive health outcomes. Upcoming projects relate to undocumented Asian and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) health outcomes.
This is a paid position with hourly pay commensurate with the student’s experience and the level of supervision needed. Ideal candidates will demonstrate strong writing and communication skills, work independently, and be interested in a longer-term position. Students who are successful in this position will be invited to continue working with Professor Nayak in Spring 2023. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in gaining more experience in public health and social determinants of health research.
Applicants should have at least 30 credit hours completed, have completed PBHL 300, and be graduating in December 2023 or later. Please send resumes to Professor Nayak at snayak@umbc.edu with "Undergraduate RA Application" in the subject line.
