The Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Program (ETA) offers one-year teaching assignment to more than 70 countries throughout the world. The requirements of each host country vary tremendously, so a careful reading of each country's Candidate Profile can help you as you narrow down your choice of host country.
Some sites are open to any native speaker of English with a Bachelor's degree in hand at the start of the ETA award. These sites may want some teaching or tutoring experience, a degree in English, American Studies or history with a concentration in US history. They probably do not require any formal training in applied linguistics or teaching of English as a second language. Students who are either earning or have earned their MA in TESOL may still apply for awards in these sites, but they may be considered overqualified for these assignments.
Other Fulbright ETA assignments are are geared specifically with current TESOL MA students and recent alumni in mind. The following sites, either due to their more challenging location or needs of the host country's student populations, may be better suited for TESOL MA students:

* Denotes either a strong preference for applicants with local language skills, or requirement for advanced proficiency in the language. If the language is commonly taught in the US, (i.e., French, German, Spanish), it is safe to assume that advanced proficiency is required of applicants.
