UMBC is delighted that we have received a CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA grant to fund a one-year position working to strengthen Retriever Essentials at UMBC. This could be the perfect position for a recent graduate.
The CCMA AmeriCorps VISTA will be responsible for mapping and connecting numerous food initiatives on campus and building the capacity for, and implementing, a sustainable food access pantry and programming on campus. Retriever Essentials at UMBC will connect the VISTA with organizations, faculty, and staff who are working to tackle food instability in the campus community. The VISTA will work to bring these groups together, create sustainable partnerships between these stakeholders, and ensure the effectiveness of the programs being offered.The VISTA will also work to support a full-time food pantry to serve the community, regularly hold community dinners to increase awareness about food insecurity issues on our campus and beyond, and run outreach programs and workshops for individuals experiencing chronic food insecurity and homelessness. The VISTA will develop and revitalize the campus connection to the Food Recovery Network, SWES, and Maryland Food Bank.
