Remembering Margaret Hamilton
Preventing an abort during Apollo 11, 3 min. before landing
Margaret Hamilton, computing pioneer who led software engineering for the Apollo program, dies at 90. She is credited with coining the term software engineering. Margaret and the engineers at the MIT Instrumentation Lab are credited with preventing an abort during the Apollo 11 mission just 3 minutes before the historic touch down on the surface of the moon on July 20th, 1969. If it was not for her efforts, diligence, and persistence, the lunar vehicle would have crashed into the surface of the moon, and the mission would have failed leaving another country to first land a person on the moon and potentially change the projection of the future as we know it. We are thankful for Margaret's pioneering efforts and know that many more pioneers will follow. Long live software engineering.
