Shelbi Tippett (UMBC SWE Treasurer), Mechanical Engineer '18.
This summer she worked both as a research assistant and an engineering intern. She researched atmospheric LiDAR (light detection and ranging) and wind energy at UMBC. This gave her the necessary experience to potentially pursue a PhD and build LiDAR’s. She also worked part-time in a machine shop in order to gain manufacturing experience and hopefully become a better engineer. With this job, she got to design and manufacture metal products. She either spent her days creating CAD models, operating CNC machines, or practicing my basic tooling skills. When she's not working, she tried to adventure. By the end of the summer, she filled her time with camping, race cars, whitewater rafting, and lots of travelling!
We, UMBC SWE, will be featuring those who have supported the Society of Women Engineer chapter and our mission statement. The UMBC SWE chapter is a professional organization so send your story today!!
