New Playwrights Festival and A.F. Theatre Auditions
Auditions for both New Playwrights Festival and A.F. Theatre
Thursday, February 22, 2018 · 6 - 9 PM
As you may have heard, TheatreCOM will be holding joint auditions with A.F. Theatre Co. this spring! While auditioning for New Playwrights Festival, also consider auditioning for their original spring musical, An Entirely Accurate Portrayal of True Events That Have Actually Happened on the UMBC Smoke-Free Campus, I Promise, by Max Hromek who is, coincidentally, also the author on some of our New Playwrights piece.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with our annual New Playwrights Festival, since 2013, we have produced this as an annual event for one-act plays written by students. For many students, this is the first step to performing their plays at larger theatre festivals (such as Charm City Fringe), and provides first-time directors a comprehensive directing experience. It's also a great opportunity to try new and interesting types of theatre (we have a lot of different plays this year) and we encourage everyone to try it out!
Auditions for New Playwrights Festival will be held from 6pm-9pm on February 22nd and 23rd in Fine Arts 424 (This is on the North side, so use the elevator next to 001 and 002). All those auditioning should prepare a one minute monologue of any genre, but you don’t need to have the monologue memorized. Although you are not required to audition for a specific show, we will be taking your preference into account, so try to align the genre of your monologue with the genre of your show (i.e comedic show = comedic monologue). All shows will be no cut, so as long as you show up to auditions, there will be a place for you in the Festival! Sign up for an audition slot at the link above!
For those auditioning for A.F. Theatre's Spring Musical, callbacks will be 1pm to 5pm on February 24th in Fine Arts 018. All those auditioning should prepare a musical theatre solo and a comedic monologue, but you don’t need to have the monologue memorized. Keep each around one (1) minute just so we can move through people quickly. Although you are not required to audition for a specific part, we will be taking your preference into account, so look at the characters and see if anyone sparks your interest! This will be a no cut show, so as long as you show up to auditions, there will be a place for you in the ensemble at the very least-- this includes bit parts and vocal solos!
