Red Cross Club Booth at Quadmania 2017!
Help raise funds for Red Cross International Relief
In South Sudan’s population of 11.3 million, there are over 5.1 million people in need of aid, and 4.8 million facing hunger. After gaining their independence six years ago, this young nation has faced economic collapse and poor industrial/agricultural conditions. Conflict within the country has further aggravated the circumstances. In early 2017, a formal state of famine was officially declared, however, out of $1.6 billion requested by the UN for assistance, only 62% of the funds were raised. Meaning they need our help now more than ever. The International Committee of the Red Cross and their volunteers have been working hard to provide life-saving aid to the Sudanese people. “In 2016 alone, 750,000 people have received food rations from the Red Cross in South Sudan. The Red Cross also vaccinated 550,000 heads of livestock, distributed seeds, and tools, and provided training for framers to enable them to grow better crops.”
This Quadmania, join the American Red Cross Club in generating relief funds for South Sudan. We will be hosting a mini-Basketball game at our booth, along with other fun activities aimed at raising awareness for this important cause. Tickets won at the booth can be used to redeem other prizes. There will also be food trucks, inflatables, carnival games, student performers and much more at the event! So, come out and visit us! You’ll have a ton of fun and help others in the process. We hope to see you there!
