Who?: You must be between the ages of 18 - 25 in order to participate. If you are interested, you will be asked to fill out a brief web-based study screener in order to assess eligibility.
What?: The purpose of this study is to experimentally test the influence of psychological interventions on pain responses. This research will help scientists and medical providers learn more about the influence of specific components of psychological interventions on pain responses, and may aid in the development and refinement of pain management techniques for people with chronic pain conditions.
As a participant in this study, you will be asked to complete:
- A set of questionnaires
- Different types of pain sensation tests involving cold water exposure to your hand and the application of pressure to your forearm
- A brief psychological intervention consisting of a writing exercise and visualization exercise
Where?: All study activities will be located in Sondheim 511 (Pediatric Psychology Lab).
How Long?: Just an hour of your time.
For participating in this study, you will receive $15 in compensation AND you will be entered into a raffle to win one of three $100 Amazon gift cards.
You will also be able to earn 1 extra credit through Sona in a selected psychology course (if eligible).
