Postponed due to UMBC's early closure on Tuesday, February 11th. New date is TBD. Details will be shared in the future.
The Yonder Cabinet is a project that invites artists to create dioramas based on environments from their favorite literary works. Each drawer holds a miniature world, turning the cabinet into a community atlas that explores the intersection of art, reading, and imagination.
Join us for an exciting and creative workshop with the Yonder Cabinet! This unique opportunity invites creators of all levels to explore the worlds of their favorite books by creating miniature dioramas that bring literary environments to life.
In this three-session, hands-on workshop, participants will:
- Share a cherished book and discuss its impact during casual meetups at the library.
- Sketch and brainstorm ideas for a 3D diorama based on their chosen literary world.
- Receive training in cutting-edge digital fabrication tools at the Innovation Lab to transform their designs into physical art.
- Have their completed dioramas displayed in the Yonder Cabinet’s card catalog, adding to a growing community of creative works.
At the end of the exhibition, participants are invited to either take their artwork home or contribute it to the expanding collection of artist creations within the cabinet.
Whether you're a seasoned artist or just starting out, this workshop offers a chance to combine your love of literature with state-of-the-art fabrication techniques. Come and be part of this imaginative, collaborative experience!
Interested? Come to the Alan and Wendy Innovation Lab at the Alvin O. Kuhn library (located on the first floor next to the circulation desk) on Tuesday, February 11th, at Noon to learn more!
