Name: Monica D. Green
Pronouns: she/her
Title: Program Administrative Specialist, Student Conduct & Community Standards
Years in Student Affairs/at UMBC: 1 year
What is something you do as part of your position that people may not be aware of?
One thing people may not realize is how much behind-the-scenes coordination goes into supporting the student conduct process. In my role with Student Conduct & Community Standards, I help manage the administrative side of cases, from reviewing and routing incident reports to coordinating hearings and appeals, maintaining case records, processing sanctions, and communicating with students and campus partners. A big part of my job is making sure the details are organized and that the right information gets to the right people at the right time so the process can move forward smoothly.
What is one of the most important things you’ve learned during your time here?
One of the most important things I’ve learned is that there is always more to learn about the University and the people who make it work. I’ve learned the value of asking questions, building relationships across departments, and understanding how our individual roles contribute to the larger student experience. I’ve also learned that sometimes the behind-the-scenes work is just as important as what people see, it takes teamwork, communication, and consistency to create a supportive experience for students.
What do you like to do for fun and/or is something you are passionate about outside of work?
Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband, family, and grand loves. I enjoy traveling, especially planning trips and curating experiences that bring my family and friends together. I’m also passionate about event planning, cooking, baking, and crafting. I enjoy a good movie night and chill with my husband, especially sci-fi, suspense, action, and a good whodunit! I’m happiest when I’m creating something, bringing like-minded people together, or making memorable experiences happen for my family and friends.
Bonus question: Anything else you would like to share?
Before joining UMBC, I owned Couture Events and Weddings, LLC for 20 years, where I planned more than 50 full weddings and hundreds of social events, conferences, retreats, and other special events, including my own wedding and my only daughter’s wedding! I’ve always loved creating experiences that bring people together, and event planning continues to be a passion of mine.
