"Roman Gladiatorial Spectacle"

Dr. Garrett Fagan, professor of Ancient History at Pennsylvania State University, will present the findings of his recent book, The Lure of the Arena, a study of the social psychology of the violent spectacles of the Roman arena, which pays particular attention to the diversity of the crowd in the arena and investigates public spectacles as efforts to create unity amid great diversity.
