Convocation 2026
Welcoming our new students to UMBC
The 2026 Convocation ceremony will be held Sunday, August 23 from 3 - 4 p.m. at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. We look forward to welcoming our incoming students and introducing them to UMBC’s traditions.
Faculty and staff can register to process here or register to serve as event staff here.
Following the ceremony, faculty and staff are invited to join the new students at a campus cookout - and soccer game.
Participating in the Convocation procession requires academic regalia. If you need to order regalia, please visit the Herff Jones website by July 28 to avoid an expedited shipping fee. UMBC will subsidize the rental of academic regalia. The last day to order (with an expedited shipping fee) is August 6. Estimated delivery to the UMBC Bookstore is August 17. We will follow up with additional information on picking up and returning your regalia.
