Plant Physiology Webinar: Celebrating the September 2022 Focus Issue on Evolution of Plant Structure and Function
When: Friday. September 16, 2022, at 8:00 AM EDT (UTC-4) | 1:00 PM BST (UTC+1) | 2:00 PM CEST (UTC+2)
About This Webinar
Plant morphology, physiology, and development are shaped by a combination of internal, external, and historical factors that have led to the remarkable diversity of structure and function we can observe on Earth today. Biologists still have much to learn about the proximate mechanisms underlying evolution of plant morphology, physiology, and development, but recent progress has revealed a myriad of underlying mechanisms, ranging from the genetic and epigenetic to the biophysical and micro-biotic. Insight into the hierarchy of mechanisms underlying various plant traits is already opening the door to new innovations, including breeding more sustainable and hardy crops, and has the power to help explain complex biological phenomena such as high evolvability, convergence, and extinction risk.
Organized by Focus Issue editors Elizabeth A. Kellogg, Jill C. Preston, Neelima R. Sinha, and Keiko Torii, this webinar features speakers Camille Puginier, Aurelia Emonet, and Jill Preston sharing their findings from their work appearing in this Focus Issue.
All events, groups, organizations, and centers are open for full participation by all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, or any other protected category under applicable federal law, state law, and the University's nondiscrimination policy.
