Annapolis Internship Shuttle is a Go for Spring 2027!
Remember: It never hurts to apply.
Dear CAHSS Students,
My name is Dr. Mileah Kromer, and I’m an associate professor in the Department of Political Science. I’m reaching out to share some exciting news about internships! UMBC is piloting a free shuttle to and from Annapolis during the spring 2027 semester to support students with Annapolis-based internships.
If transportation has been holding you back from interning in Annapolis, this is your chance.
Shuttle details
Days: Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from the start of the legislative session in January through April
Morning departure: 8:30am from the Commons Dr. and Park Rd. shuttle stop, which has a covered bus shelter
Drop-off: 100 State Circle, Annapolis, near the State House
Evening pickup: Same as drop off
Cost: Free for students interning in Annapolis
Interning in Annapolis is a great experience for students from all majors. The Career Center is the best place to help you search for internships and with your application materials. I’ve also provided a list of places that sometimes take interns within walking distance from the shuttle drop-off at the end of this email.
That said, the application window for one of the most popular internship programs – the Maryland General Assembly Legislative Intern Program – closes THIS Thursday, October 15.
I know this is a fast-approaching deadline. The good news is the application process is relatively easy. Click here for the application tip sheet I created. It should guide you through the application.
Please note that the program requires that you receive academic credit.
I teach the credit-bearing internship course—POLI 448—for the Department of Political Science. You do NOT have to be a political science major or minor to take the course. Your home department might offer a similar course. Please check with your advisor.
To enroll in POLI 448, students must complete an Internship Information Session, sponsored by the UMBC Institute of Politics. You do not need to complete one of these sessions to apply for an internship. That said, POLI 448 requires permission of the instructor (me) to enroll, and I only grant permission to students who complete a session. To be clear, the information session is only a requirement for students wanting to enroll in POLI 448.
Remember: It never hurts to apply.
Thanks,
Dr. Kromer
