Fulbright Accelerator Workshop for Arts Faculty
This workshop focuses on Fulbright opportunities in the Visual and Performing Arts through the U.S. Scholar Program. We will cover a variety of Fulbright opportunities that are specifically arts friendly, hear from Fulbright arts faculty alums, and discuss how to access UMBC internal support for application development and CAHSS routing approval.
Moderators:
Corrie Francis Parks (CIRCA, Visual Arts) was a Fulbright/Q21 Artist in Residence at the Musuemsquartier in Vienna, Austria during March and April, 2023. During the Fulbright-sponsored residency she worked with the Austrian chapter of ASIFA to install new animation based work inspired by rock glaciers in the alps at the Asifakeil galley in the Museumsquartier.
Guenet Abraham (Graphic Design) received a 10-month Fulbright for 2017 – 2018 to teach graphic design at Alle School of Arts and Design at Addis Ababa University and conduct research in Ethiopia for a multimedia exhibition. She extended her stay with the support of an additional Fulbright award for 2018 – 2019.
Dr. Brian Souders – Associate Director of Global Learning in the Center for Global Engagement (CGE),
and UMBC’s Fulbright Scholar Liaison, will discuss support for faculty
applicants alongside tips for preparing strong Fulbright
applications, initiating outreach to international host
institutions, and doing short- and long-term planning. In 2023 Dr.
Souders traveled to Berlin as a part of the Fulbright Germany
International Education Administrators Program
Rachel Brubaker – Associate Director CARAT, has developed and managed grants and programs in the humanities and arts for over 20 years at UMBC, most recently as Assistant Director in the Dresher Center for the Humanities. She was Director of Program Administration for UMBC’s Center for Digital History and Education in the Department of History for 12 years. She has also worked in education marketing and program development at University of Baltimore and Maryland Public Television. In 2019, she was the recipient of the University System of Maryland Board of Regents Staff Award for Exceptional Contribution to the Institution. She has an M.A. in Historical Studies from UMBC and a B.F.A. in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University.
