Join Dr. April Householder from UMBC's Office of Prestigious Scholarships for an information and interest session for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship Program on Wednesday, September 16, from 12n-12:50pm in MEYR 030.
The Barry Goldwater Scholarship program is a highly competitive national scholars program in the natural sciences, engineering, and mathematics. Every Goldwater nomination goes through a Campus Representative (CR), and each institution may nominate up to four students per year. An institution may nominate a fifth student if at least one nominee is a transfer student or a U.S. veteran, and a sixth if the nominees include both.
Due to the limits placed on the number of nominees that a university can put forward to the national level, UMBC has an internal application process for selecting our nominees that begins early in the Fall semester.

The Goldwater Scholarship supports college sophomores and juniors who plan to build research careers in the natural sciences, engineering, or mathematics.
The characteristics the Foundation seeks in a Goldwater Scholar include:
- A strong commitment to a research career in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering.
- Intellectual intensity in those fields, demonstrated in coursework and research.
- The potential for a significant future contribution to research in their chosen field.
This session is sponsored by the Meyerhoff Scholars Program, and open to all students.
