The Physics Department is introducing a new undergraduate curriculum in Fall 2026.
Students who begin in the Fall will see a re-ordering of topics in their second-year courses, a streamlined experimental physics sequence, and more electives to choose from – including the option to elect a track in Quantum Information, Materials Physics, Atmospheric Physics, or Astrophysics.
If you are a current student, you may carry on under the degree requirements in the "old" (current) catalog. All required courses will continue to be offered and you can complete your degree under the current requirements. If you progress more slowly than the standard four-year-degree pace, it may be necessary at some point for the physics department to substitute a new course. Alternatively, you may choose to follow the “new” 2026-2027 catalog.
Please review the attached guide, to help you decide if you would rather remain with the old catalog or opt for the new catalog. If you have any questions or concerns, follow up with your advisor, contact Undergraduate Program Director Eric Anderson (andersoe@umbc.edu), and /or attend one of the sessions below.
