Full Title: Two Opportunities to Represent Students to Maryland Policy MakersThe Maryland Higher Education Commission sets policies that affect every college student in the state. Its Student Advisory Council, which consists of one student representative from each Maryland institution of higher education, ensures that the Commission is aware of students' concerns and priorities. Student representatives are nominated by their home institutions. UMBC will nominate a representative for the 2010-2011 school year this summer. You can request an application by sending me an email: dhoffman@umbc.edu. The application deadline is August 2, 2010.
The Maryland Youth Advisory Council was established by the state legislature to give young people a forum for providing feedback and recommendations on policies and programs that will affect their future. UMBC students between the ages of 14 and 22 can submit applications to the Maryland Higher Education Commission. For a copy of the application form and instructions, send me an email at dhoffman@umbc.edu. I'm not aware of the application deadline, but the term for 2010-2011 members begins September 1st, so apply soon.
