[2/25/2010]--Alan Sherman, associate professor of computer science and director of the Cyber Defense Lab, published two papers in December’s special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Security on voting technology. One paper (co-authors include Rick Carback ‘14) describes the Scantegrity II end-to-end verifiable voting system developed in part at UMBC and used in November in Takoma Park, Maryland. The other (with Russ Fink ‘14 and Carback) describes how to build a more secure voting machine using Trusted Platform Modules (TPMs). The journal competitively selected 12 papers for this special issue – no university in the world placed more papers than UMBC, a leader in voting technology innovation.
