TODAY: What’s Your Story? Story Circle and Panel Event
Promoting youth literacy through storytelling and narrative
The UMBC Community Read for fall 2021 and spring 2022 is We Speak For Ourselves by D. Watkins, a Baltimore-based author, teacher, and speaker. We invite all UMBC and surrounding Baltimore area community members to participate in our events based on themes discussed in this important book.
In collaboration with the Center for Democracy and Civic Life; Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation; and Montgomery College, our initial event is a combined workshop and panel discussion on the theme of telling our stories, youth literacy, and social and racial justice. The event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd, 4:30-6:30 via WebEx.
We will start the event with facilitated storytelling in small groups. After the small group activity, we will come back together and hear from both UMBC and Montgomery College community members about the power of sharing our stories. This event is the first event in a series leading up to our keynote with the author, D. Watkins, in the spring.
Attendees will be entered in a drawing for a free copy of We Speak for Ourselves and learn more about our Essay/Multimodal Contest associated with the book!
