Impact Workshop: When What You Wear Understands You
The next generation data source that will revolutionize areas of health, safety, and others is the human body. Wearable and embedded systems are key to harvest this data source. These systems are foundational to developing healthcare systems, safety systems, surveillance systems, and cybersecurity assessment systems. In this workshop, we will discuss the challenges in developing these embedded systems for myriad applications. We will also discuss two commercialization efforts in this field.
Nilanjan Banerjee is a Professor in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering. His research focuses on two key areas: physiological sensing to understand human state and cybersecurity for manufacturing and supply chain systems. He has received several awards for his research including the National Science Foundation Career award, a Microsoft Research software engineering innovations award, an outstanding dissertation award at UMass Amherst, and a best undergraduate thesis award at IIT Kharagpur. He is especially interesting in transitioning research in the lab to commercial products through small businesses. In his role as an entrepreneur, he is the CEO of a health tech startup in Maryland, Tanzen Medical, and the CSO of another startup located in the silicon valley, Lifeplus Inc.
