Wednesday, April 28, 2021 · 3 - 4 PM
Please join us on Wednesday, April 28, for the final technical Cyber Workshop of the semester. Our guest speaker and former Cyber Scholar, Priyanka Ranade, will be speaking about penetration testing. All are welcome! Attending this event can earn you 1000 CWIT treasure chest points!
**IMPORTANT** If you would like to follow along with this workshop and do the activities yourself, you MUST complete the steps below in advance of the workshop. There will not be time to do this during the workshop. If you do not complete these steps, you can still attend and observe, but you will not be able to do the hands-on components.
Part 1: Penetration Testing Environment Set Up
1.1 Install Kali Linux (https://www.kali.org/downloads/) in a virtualized software environment. I like using VirtualBox, but VmWare is also a good option.
See the video below on how to install Kali Linux with VirtualBox- he also shows you how to install VirtualBox.
1.2 Set Up Metasploit on Kali Linux by following the directions below:
1.3 Install Metasploitable 2
Metasploitable is a vulnerable image used to learn penetration testing techniques and provides security enthusiasts a system that they can attack legally :)
Note: Kali Linux will be our local machine where we can run our attacks from, and we will be performing these attacks on the vulnerable Metasploitable 2 image.
Note: Metasploitable shouldn’t need more than 256MB of ram but you can add more if your system can handle it.
See the video on how to install Metasploitable 2 with VirtualBox:
