Dog Collar Comedy Auditions: Zoom Edition
That's right! We want you!!
Frequently Asked Questions:
What is improv?
- A textbook definition: Improvisation is the activity of making or doing something
not planned beforehand, using whatever can be found.
- As far as an art form on stage and the type of improv we do, often our actors will
only be given a setting or a relationship to the other actor as far as base
information. The idea is to be able to establish a baseline reality, meaning
that the conflict occurring could be seen an everyday life. From there, actors
are tasked to play around a “game”, which creates stipulations the actors can
work in, around, under and over to help elevate the scene being created.
- For example: Party Quirks is a game where the anchor of the scene is hosting a
party, but is about to have some uninvited guests (3 actors) show up. The
audience gives each of the guests a different quirk that the anchor will have
to guess as the scene occurs.
How often do we meet?
- Our rehearsals are held every Tuesday night from 7:30 – 9:30 pm, and we also have
an additional and supplemental rehearsal on Sundays as well.
With the pandemic, we have transitioned to an online format of practicing on Zoom. We still meet on Tuesday nights at the same time, but we are given access to a Zoom room.
When are your shows?
- Last semester, during our battle with Mrs. Corona herself, we were able to put up
one valiant fight where we performed an online livestream show! This semester
we plan on having 2 more online shows, so get ready for some hot fresh comedy
coming to you this spring!
Shows Dates for the Spring Semester (tentatively):
- March 26th
- May 7th
How do I audition?
- We are so glad you asked!! This semester we are doing our most to hold auditions
through Zoom. Our set date is Feb. 16th with two audition time slots
including 7pm – 8 pm and 8 pm – 9 pm. After these two sessions we will have a
callback session from 9pm – 10 pm. Below will be an interest form that you can
fill out letting us know if A) you are interested in auditioning and B) what
time you are available to audition. If you are not able to make any time due to
an immovable obligation prior, please contact us ASAP. We want to see all the
talent UMBC has to offer, so we are willing to work with those interested in
joining! https://forms.gle/csyL9ATQfgvi2VYu6
Note: You MUST have a webcam and mic if you are looking to audition. A lot of improv is physicality and if we are unable to see you, we lose are ability to see you perform.
Why should I audition?
- You will never know how much you will love something until you try it!
- Below we have created a video of some members talking about what Dog Collar means to them, so hopefully you will share some of the merit we have for this club as well.
- What else are you doing during a pandemic? Why not come and be funny with other funny people too!
