The
film, which premiered in 2019 at the Toronto Film Festival is acclaimed
filmmaker Jayro Bustamante’s urgent and frightening reimagining of the
iconic Latin American fable. The story follows retired general Enrique,
who has been accused of the genocide of Mayan people and finds himself
along with his family trapped in his home, which has been surrounded by
massive public protests. Abandoned by his staff, the indignant old man
and his family must face the devastating truth of his actions and the
growing sense that a wrathful supernatural force is targeting them for
his crimes.
