The Department of English's 416/616 course, "Shakespeare: Text and Performance," will host a series of guest lectures over the fall 2021 semester.
For the third lecture, Casey Kaleba, a fight choreographer, will discuss his work on a production of Shakespeare's Coriolanus.
Casey Kaleba is the co-founder of Tooth & Claw Combat Arts. He has coordinated violence for opera, television, music videos, and more than 500 productions with professional, community, and academic theatres. That work includes arranging fights at regional theaters, including Ford's Theatre, Folger Theatre, Signature Theatre, Wolf Trap Opera, and Washington National Opera; and has trained internationally, including Fight Directors Canada, the Society of Australian Fight Directors, British Academy of Stage and Screen Combat, Dueling Arts International, Dell'Arte, Combat Circus, Rapier Wit, and the British Academy of Dramatic Combat.
Kaleba holds an MA in Theatre History from the University of Maryland, was host and creative contributor to the two-time Emmy Award-winning Experiencing Shakespeare through the Folger Library and Alabama Public Radio, and he helped carry the Irish flag in the 1994 World Cup opening ceremonies.
