Teaching and Learning Radicalism in the UMBC Classroom
What does "radical" mean in our classrooms? How do we teach about radicalism, particularly when the concept itself can be so politically divisive? Building on examples from her teaching about Baltimore's radical queer and feminist movements, Kate Drabinski, along with students Sarah Nove and Gabe Brunal, will share strategies for teaching, learning, and thinking radically in classes, and how this work can move beyond the boundaries of UMBC.
AOK Library & Gallery Spotlight! Guest Instructor Series will be
hosting a public symposium throughout the Fall 2021 semester examining
the topic of radicalism. The aim of the symposium is not to declare a
definitive definition of radicalism but to offer a regional and
historical context to the term. The inspiration for the theme is the
Library’s Special Collections’ Radical Literature and Alternative Press
Center collections.
