Beyond borders: Internationalization at Home and Virtual Exchange in Brazilian Higher Education
Presented by UMBC TESOL
Speaker: Daniela Nogueira de Moraes Garcia, PhD
This talk will share perspectives on Internationalization at Home (IaH) in higher education teaching and learning. In the Brazilian context, IaH has become an important framework for promoting international and intercultural learning opportunities for students who may not have access to physical mobility. Beyond the syllabus, it offers possibilities for bringing the international dimension into everyday educational experiences while addressing geographical, financial, and time constraints.
Being located away from major academic and international centers can present challenges, but technology has increasingly enabled international learning beyond geographical boundaries. In this context, virtual exchange can foster authentic communication, intercultural learning, collaboration, and the development of digital and global competencies.
