Faith Brown, an English Department Alumna, is using the skills she learned in her classes to reach students in creative ways. Read her update below:
"The Soccer Without Borders Summer Learning Academy is a program that provides academic support to the immigrant population in the Baltimore community, as well as building community and promoting teamwork through teaching children how to play soccer. They have a host of different workshops, activities, and classes to support this community. Their target communities include immigrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers from around the world. I got involved in this program after taking the PRAC 096 and ENGL 386 courses. These classes introduced me to the world of ESOL and taught me more about the experiences of immigrants in America. I was encouraged and given the resources by my professors to pursue different ESOL teaching opportunities. It was a very fulfilling and enriching experience."
