Richard K. Barksdale Scholarship Fund
(Also known as the Barksdale Award)
This scholarship is awarded to talented students in the English Department at UMBC who have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of minorities in the field of English. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above to qualify. The Richard K. Barksdale Scholarship Fund was established in March 1999 by UMBC in memory of Richard K. Barksdale.
Lucille Parkinson McCarthy Endowed Scholarship
(Also known as the McCarthy Award)
This is a need and merit-based scholarship (minimum 3.0 GPA) for undergraduate student majoring in English who has an interest in Rhetoric and Composition Studies or the teaching of writing. This scholarship was created in 2022 in honor of Lucille Parkinson McCarthy, Professor of English.
Nick and Ola Ford Scholarship Endowment
(Also known as the Ford Award)
This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student who intends to pursue graduate studies in English and has demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of minorities in the field of English. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above to qualify. The Nick and Ola Ford Scholarship Endowment was established in February 1996 by Freeman A. Hrabowski, III in memory of Nick Ford and in tribute to Ola Ford.
Sandra King Geest Endowed Scholarship
(Also known as the Geest Award)
This need and merit-based scholarship is awarded to undergraduate students who have a declared major in English. The Sandra King Geest Endowed Scholarship was established in 2014.
