Hi Retrievers!
Hope you're having a great study day! Tutoring may be over, but SI PASS review sessions are happening now! If you are in a course with SI PASS, be on the look out for information about review sessions for your courses.
Speaking of SI PASS, let's get to know Joshua Richards, one of our amazing SI PASS leaders!
Tell us about yourself!
I’m a physics major and astrophysics minor. I’m a sophomore and I am an SI/PASS leader for PHYS 121.
Tell us what else you do for the UMBC community.
I’m a member of the Alpha Omega campus ministry. We’re part of the Greater Baltimore church and we perform around the greater Baltimore area.
Why did you get involved with the Academic Success Center?
I like helping students realize they’re smarter than they think they are. I feel like that’s why a lot of people fail because they think they can’t do it. The first step to achieve something is to believe you can achieve it.
Why do you love your job?
I love seeing students get the aha! Moment “like I finally got it” and I like changing people’s perspectives about physics. I don’t convert people to physics majors, but I like getting them to say they don’t hate it or it wasn’t that bad.
Ideal pizza and why?
Y’all are gonna think this is weird but, mushroom and green pepper. Y’all sleeping on it, but I can feel it in my soul. Mushroom and green pepper—that be hittin it! Y’all haven’t tried it, put yourself on!
Good stuff! And if you're in PHYS 121, you can put yourself on to the PHYS 121 review session with Joshua! The session is scheduled for Thursday, May 14th at 4:30 p.m. Happy studying!
#UMBCtogether
(Editor's note: While the Academic Success Center does not endorse any specific pizza places, Joshua insists that you have to try this combination from Papa John's or else it won't taste right. Please enjoy pizza responsibly.)
